Alignment Rockford Announces Job Shadow Results

Alignment Rockford, a collective impact organization whose mission is to align community resources in support of public school strategies, is excited to share the results from its job shadow experiences during the 2019-2020 school year.

Alignment Rockford connects local employers with RPS 205 to provide job shadow experiences for its 11th grade students. Job shadows are one component of a robust work-based learning continuum of experiences that the College & Career Academies of RPS 205 offer students throughout their high school education.

The outcomes from the 2019-2020 job shadow experiences are as follows:

  • 321 participating students
  • 119 job shadow mentors
  • 19 participating businesses
  • 7 of 12 dates completed
  • 6 participating Pathway Sponsors

“Despite having to cancel all our Spring session job shadow days due to the ‘shelter in place’ order, we are thrilled with the outcomes”, said Anisha Grimmett, Executive Director of Alignment Rockford. “We are beyond excited to launch enhanced curriculum for the upcoming school year, which will provide additional opportunities for more students and professional partners to connect through virtual channels.”

To ensure high-quality curriculum continues to be delivered to all students through distance/virtual learning, the program will be enhancing its offerings for the 2020-2021 school year. For example, students will be offered virtual mock interview opportunities; they will be able to interview employers via phone or video conference about their jobs, the skills needed for entry/middle/professional level positions and the outlook for a career in specific industries; and they will be provided with training materials or videos to learn more about area businesses and the products/services they offer.
